AKFA Aluminium Explores International Bond Issuance Amid Market Engagements in London
Uzbek company AKFA Aluminium plans its first bond issuance, engaging global investors to enhance corporate transparency and funding options.

AKFA Aluminium, one of Uzbekistan's leading private-sector companies, is considering entering international debt markets with its inaugural bond issuance. According to reports, the company has initiated a roadshow in London starting July 13, targeting international investors and coordinating with major banks Citigroup and JPMorgan for this milestone.
Strategic Shift Toward Capital Markets
The decision to explore bond issuance marks a significant development in AKFA Aluminium's growth trajectory and financial strategy. While the initial meetings with investors are exploratory and no immediate bond placement is planned, the engagement signals the company’s intent to diversify funding sources beyond traditional equity offerings.
"This phase represents a crucial step in AKFA Aluminium’s evolution as a joint-stock company, aimed at enhancing corporate governance, transparency, and disclosure practices," a company statement noted.
Founded in 2000 by entrepreneur and former Tashkent mayor Jahongir Ortiqxo‘jayev, AKFA Aluminium operates in the construction materials sector, manufacturing aluminum and plastic products. It exports to more than 30 countries, establishing a significant presence in regional and international markets.
AKFA Aluminium announced on May 8 the decision for an initial equity placement, reinforcing its commitment to develop as a transparent and well-governed public company. The company’s capital structure includes a charter fund of approximately 664.8 billion Uzbek soms, equally owned by Jahongir Ortiqxo‘jayev and Nigora Ortiqxo‘jayeva, with Bahodir Abdullayev acting as CEO.
Market Context and Financial Outlook
Credit rating agency S&P Global Ratings assigned a B+ rating to AKFA Aluminium in 2024, maintaining this rating for two consecutive years, which reflects moderate credit risk but stable financial prospects.
Projected revenues for 2025 stand at 31.23 billion Uzbek soms, showcasing steady operational growth. The company's move to tap bond markets aligns with broader sector rotations in emerging market equities, where investors show increasing appetite for corporate bonds from high-growth markets.
Meanwhile, the National Investment Fund has recently sold 31% of its shares via IPOs for about $603.6 million but reported a net loss of 417.4 billion soms in Q1 2026. Experts urge investors to interpret such financial outcomes carefully.
"The key market focus should be on interpreting financial reports accurately and distinguishing accounting valuation adjustments from operational cash losses," said Farrux Khodjayev, head of KAP DEPO.
Khodjayev emphasized that the loss largely results from investment portfolio revaluations and asset exchanges, not from actual cash outflows, indicating the so-called "paper loss" phenomenon. This nuance is critical for investors assessing the risk and value of emerging market investments like AKFA Aluminium.
Implications for Wall Street and Sector Rotation
AKFA Aluminium’s potential bond issuance may attract interest from global fixed income investors seeking exposure to Central Asian markets. This move could influence sector rotations on Wall Street by drawing capital flows into industrial materials and emerging market debt sectors. Trading volumes in related ETFs and bonds might see increased activity as research analysts update views on the region’s corporate creditworthiness.
Overall, AKFA Aluminium's strategic financial moves reflect a growing trend among emerging market firms to enhance transparency and leverage international capital markets. Continued monitoring of investor roadshows and bond placement outcomes will provide further insights into the company's impact on global equity and debt markets.
